Died: Feb­ru­a­ry 29, 1844.

Son of a poor “bel­lows tread­er” (for or­gans), he worked as a pri­vate tu­tor to pay for his own ed­u­ca­tion. Sick­ness and eco­nom­ic wor­ries fol­lowed him dur­ing his life. He was a pas­tor in Norr­köp­ing, then rec­tor in Tu­na and Stav­by (near Upp­sa­la), and was la­ter ap­point­ed to a post in Sim­tu­na and Al­tu­na, al­so near Upp­sa­la. Ås­tröm was one of the most learned rec­tors in Swe­den, and par­ti­ci­pat­ed in ev­ery im­port­ant com­mit­tee that dealt with church af­fairs at the time.
