Alcock stu­died un­der Ar­thur Sul­li­van and John Stain­er at the Na­tion­al Train­ing School of Mu­sic (1876-81), and served as or­gan­ist in church­es in Twick­en­ham and Lon­don. He al­so played the or­gan at West­min­ster Ab­bey, and in 1916 be­came the or­gan­ist for Sal­is­bu­ry Ca­thed­ral. He played the or­gan at the cor­o­na­tions of King Ed­ward VII and King George V, and taught or­gan at the Roy­al Coll­ege of Mu­sic.
